Night of the TommyKnockers (2022)

The Score: 8 out of 10

When miners blast for gold in the 1870’s, they accidentally release ancient creatures known as Tommyknockers. The Town of Deer Creek, Nevada is soon under siege with only a handful of survivors held up in the local saloon.

The Review:

Night of the TommyKnockers is a lot of fun, mixing western tropes and horror tropes in a film that has the right amount of humor and entertainment.

In a slight tweak of the “town under siege” scenario, Night of the TommyKnockers is a fun mix of action and horror, with plenty of bloody fun throughout.

Plus, because of the low budget, it leans towards practicals and proper camera work to achieve the desired effect. Lots of period authentic outfits as well as a leaning towards a bit of cheesy camp.

Speaking of which, the writing is pretty good. It leans a touch towards parody while still taking the characters seriously enough to add some good content there, with a story that has just enough of the epic western feel to get you swept up in it.  Plus the dialogue feels very authentic for the era.

As it was with Bridge of the Doomed, this Mahal brothers film features some surprisingly familiar names, but they don’t overshadow the overall cast, who also pull their weight throughout the film.

All combined results in a film that’s a lot of fun and has enough genre crossover to appeal to fans of both westerns and horror.

Night of the TommyKnockers will be released on November 25, and it’s definitely worth the wait to check out.
